Purpose: To implement a low-pass ion filter in the source region of a Thermo Scientific™ OrbitrapFusion Lumos™ Tribrid™ mass spectrometer.
Methods: We modified the existing electronics to supply a resolving DC to the ion guide in the source region, and we tested a series of ion guide assemblies.
Results: We improved the resolution of the source filter 2-fold by exchanging the standard flat rod ion guide for an ion guide with round rods and a smaller inscribed radius. With this optimal ion guide, we can remove 40% of the unwanted ions during a typical shotgun proteomics LC-MS/MS analysis.
