The ability to detect and acquire fragmentation data on metabolites in complex samples is one of the key challenges of metabolite identification. Using the structure of the parent drug to direct the instrument is one way to assure that even minor metabolites are detected and analyzed without extensive metabolite prediction or reinjection. In this example we use a combination of all ion fragmentation (AIF) with accurate mass multiple neutral loss analysis to detect potential metabolites in real time and trigger selective MS2 fragmentation.
