Don't stress: Maradolipids, are the first diacyltrehaloses found to be produced in animal organisms. The nematode Caenorhabditis elegans synthesizes maradolipids for the highly stress-resistant dauer larvae. Genetic knockout studies result in the improper morphology of the gut lumen of dauer larvae. Maradolipids might be important for understanding the chemical basis for the resistance of dauer larvae to extreme environmental stress.
