With the commercialization of ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), there has been a continuing trend towards this technology's use. This trend
is mainly driven by innovations in liquid chromatography
instrumentation and column packing. Compared to high
performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), column particle sizes are smaller, down to the sub-2 µm range, and provide more theoretical plates and resolution than columns of the same length that use larger-sized particles.
