A sub-class of pathogenic microbes exhibit drastically increased biomass accumulation when supplemented with SCFAs. This phenomenon was probed via stable isotope resolved untargeted metabolomics leveraging Thermo Scientific™ Compound Discoverer™ software. Metabolites presenting fold changes as well as downstream isotopic enrichment from a 13C2 acetate substrate were used to inform on this unusual phenomenon and increase our understanding of the microbe's pathogenic mechanism.
