Speakers: Florencia Jesus and Francisco José Díaz Galiano - EURL-FV, University of Almeria, Almeria, Spain
Many problems encountered in the analysis of LC- and IC- amenable pesticide residues have found solutions from continuous improvements to existing LC-MS and IC-MS instrumentation. This presentation will, therefore, discuss the practical implementation of several new well-designed instrumental approaches to overcome some of the remaining challenges, including improvement in sensitivity provided by the high-end triple quads to mitigate issues with matrix effects and ion suppression. The ongoing developments in dual column chromatography to improve the utilization of the mass spectrometer time to, either reduce the analysis time and increase sample throughput without compromising selectivity or, alternatively, to facilitate optimization of eluents for both positive and negative detection modes simultaneously to improve LOQs for an increased number of pesticides without increasing the analysis time. And insights on the use of ion chromatography as a robust technique for highly polar pesticides will also be provided. Practical examples of these topics are assessed considering quantitation, analysis time, robustness, etc. by analysis of a range of matrices with different complexities and using a combination of the latest chromatography and mass spectrometry technologies.

Speaker: Dr. Łukasz Rajski - Product Application Specialist, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Bremen, Germany
During this presentation, the capabilities of the new GC-MS/MS system from Thermo Scientific, which was launched in March 2022, will be discussed. The system design was based on direct customer feedback in order to overcome challenges faced by analytical testing laboratories. The new system provides sensitivity to meet the strictest regulatory limits and has modular GC for increased flexibility, while including unique maintenance options and compatibility with online automated clean-up to minimize instrument downtime and increase sample throughput. An overview of applications on the new GC-MS/MS with data examples will be given including the analysis of pesticide in baby food and the determination of ethylene oxide in food, showing how your laboratory can stay ahead with unstoppable confidence. At the conclusion of the presentation our application expert will answer any questions in a live Q and A.
