pittcon-1Hello from the Pittcon 2018 exhibition floor in Orlando! Thermo Fisher Scientific is  having another fantastic show. This year, the Thermo Fisher booth (#2353) is showcasing many new and exciting products and technologies, designed to boost efficiencies and productivity across life science labs.

Making its debut at the show is the brand new Thermo Scientific TSQ 9000 triple quadrupole gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) system. This breakthrough instrument has been designed to deliver exceptional sensitivity, uptime and ease-of-use, taking lab productivity to a whole new level. Where best to demonstrate this next-generation GC-MS/MS system than at Pittcon, the show that celebrates lab science innovations!

Unstoppable performance

For years, routine food, environmental and forensic labs have all been facing the same challenges. Changing regulatory requirements, increasing pressure to achieve lower detection limits and analyze more compounds in less time, increased competition, and lower profit margins. By talking to scientists, managers and thought leaders across these labs, it soon became clear that a next-generation GC-MS/MS instrument could help overcome these challenges. Simply put, the new system needed to be unstoppable.

The innovative TSQ 9000 triple quadrupole GC-MS/MS instrument delivers unprecedented levels of sensitivity, allowing scientists to quantitate trace element compounds in complex sample matrices with utmost confidence. This capability makes it possible for labs to expand their scope of work to accommodate even the most challenging applications. Furthermore, by focusing the design on boosting uptime, the TSQ 9000 GC-MS/MS system can reduce maintenance-related downtime by up to 98 percent, compared to typical GC-MS systems. High-throughput labs can therefore benefit from immediate productivity gains and a reduced cost per sample.

Keeping compliant

Powered by the Thermo Scientific Chromeleon Chromatography Data System (CDS) software, the TSQ 9000 GC-MS/MS system helps labs ensure compliance with increasingly complex regulatory requirements. As a streamlined, workflow-driven software solution, Chromeleon CDS manages every aspect of sample analysis and provides a full audit trail, from sample login to testing and final reporting. Being fully scalable from a single workstation to an enterprise-wide installation, the software allows users to control multiple chromatography systems remotely and manage staff-equipment interaction through a single intuitive user interface. Adherence to internal standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as compliance with good laboratory practices (GLP), are seamlessly achieved.

Ease of use and scalability

While developing a powerful system was a key priority, it was also important to ensure that the TSQ 9000 GC-MS/MS system wouldn’t be adding complexity to routine lab workflows. That’s why the instrument has been equipped with a comprehensive set of simple tools to ease the transition from other platforms, and simplify analytical method development as well as routine sample analysis.  As such, the instrument can be easily used by experienced and new users alike. Adding to this, the system’s unmatched flexibility allows for a full upgrade path from base to advanced configurations, meaning that users can feel confident they will always be able to address the challenges the future holds.

Driving innovation

Thermo Scientific understands that routine food, environmental and forensic labs need technology that accelerates science and enhances productivity, while enabling regulatory compliance. The new TSQ 9000 GC-MS/MS instrument is set to make an impact to help labs rapidly and reliably quantify a growing list of compounds, with a full audit trail. A highly robust design, along with flexible method development and powerful reporting tools, ensure the system will deliver optimal performance, helping labs make the world healthier, cleaner and safer.
