Since the late 70s the analytical community has been looking for ways to identify and quantify dioxins and other persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in food and environmental samples. As the awareness of the risk of these compounds grew, and the need for human health, environmental, food and beverage protection became even more important, regulations were put into place which increased the need for analysis. The analytical community has been researching new methods and solutions aimed at improving limits of detections and productivity of analysis while complying with new and existing regulations.
Every year since 1983, the analytical testing community involved in dioxins and POPs analysis and research have been meeting at the International Symposium on Halogenated Persistent Organic Pollutants, commonly known as Dioxin Conference, to discuss these topics and more. The conference is organized by a non-profit organization founded by the International Advisory Board of the International Symposium on Halogenated Persistent Organic Pollutants for the purpose of promoting scientific education and research on POPs. Being an open public forum, the Dioxin Conference gathers the community presenting latest scientific research on POPs across all disciplines, including analytical and environmental chemistry, molecular biology, human health, risk assessment, and risk management.
The 2018 Dioxin Conference will be held in Krakow, Poland, August 26-31, where the program presents a wide range of topics, including regulation and productivity of analysis.
